With everyone everywhere in lock down until further notice, we’ve been working hard to make sure we can continue to deliver effective drug and alcohol education to young people and parents, and offer training to professionals, despite not being able to get into schools or colleges.
For schools, we’ve been busy developing lessons that can be sent home to students in years 9-11 and sixth form via schools’ virtual learning platforms. These include vaping, cannabis, alcohol, decision making and preparing for university. The content has been carefully developed so students can work on it independently, and so that it’s material and content that will be safe for students to study and explore on their own in the very different contexts of their home and family rather than the school environment.
For parents we’re offering virtual drug and alcohol awareness workshops via webinar. These will include the opportunity to send in questions before, during and after workshops with follow-up FAQ podcasts and Facebook live sessions exploring some of these queries and concerns in more detail. We’ll be doing these through partner schools but also opening some up to anyone who’d like to come along – look out for dates on our Facebook events page.
We’re also going to be doing regular Facebook live Q&A sessions for parents, answering questions around particular areas of focus. Again, look out for these on Facebook events. You can see our first live session here https://youtu.be/wM_5s5oMzfg
For teachers and professionals we’re offering online training live through webinars, and also developing distance learning modules for staff CPD.
