On Monday 28th June we were delighted to be able to welcome delegates from across the UK – in person! – to the third National Drug and Alcohol Education Conference, held at the beautiful Guildhall in the City of London, co-organised by the DSM Foundation and the Alcohol Education Trust, and hosted by the London Drug and Alcohol Policy Forum.
We were honoured to hear from a morning of fabulous speakers, from Public Health England, the PHSE Association and the PSHE lead for Ofsted, as well as Clinical Psychiatrist (and Chair of the ACMD) Dr Owen Bowden Jones, Dr Rachel Herring from the Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at the University of Middlesex, Katya Kowalski from Volteface, and Dr David Regis from SHEU bringing us all the latest data – and of course the CEO of AET, Helena Conibear, and the Foundation’s own Director and Founder Fiona, talking about involving parents in drug education.
In the afternoon delegates had a choice of workshops, covering a range of very practical topics relevant to making sure the young people we all work with and care for are better equipped and supported to make safer choices about drugs and alcohol.
Covid restrictions were all in place, but everyone was just so happy to be able to be in one place together, off our screens, able to chat on their tables, and mingle in the fresh air outside over lunch.
A huge success and definitely a highlight of our year!
