Scottish Drugs Minister to see ‘I Love You, Mum’ play

We’re so excited to hear that Minister for Drugs Policy Angela Constance is coming to our Drug Education Showcase in Edinburgh next month. This special event, generously funded and supported by Police Scotland, and kindly hosted by Trinity Academy, Edinburgh, is all about exploring the vital role education and prevention can play in reducing the risks of drugs to young people in the short-term, and reversing the trend of longer-term harm. Drug deaths in Scotland remain the highest by far across Europe, and nearly four times the overall UK level. More needs to be done, and we’re very keen to be part of that.

This event will bring together a wide range of key professionals and policy makers working across Scotland – along with a big bunch of teenagers from the school – to share a filmed performance by Tie It Up Theatre of ‘I Love You, Mum – I Promise I Won’t Die’, Mark Wheeller’s play about Dan. This will be followed by showing an example of the interactive drug education workshop used in schools following play performances, and a panel discussion and Q&A with leading experts in drug and alcohol education and prevention on the vital role of education in tackling the harms of drugs to individuals, families and communities.

This is our fourth attempt to hold a similar event, the first being June 2020, which Covid-19 of course scuppered, as (of course) it did subsequent attempts to try again. However, it’s finally, definitely going ahead. Phew! And hooray! More on all this anon…
