Annual report and accounts 24/25

“The work of the DSM Foundation isn’t just important, it is urgent. Social media, the dark web, the rise of synthetic drugs… the world young people are growing up in is a perfect storm in which the stakes have never been higher. But this report shines some good news on what can seem a bleak outlook. In the nearly 12 years since the Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation came into being, the charity has proved that high quality, evidence-based, non-judgemental drugs education can make a significant difference, equipping young people – and the trusted adults in their lives – with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make safer choices.

There is a sense of collective purpose, from our board of trustees who are committed to the highest standards of governance, and the team of staff and volunteers who continue to bowl us over with their dedication and enthusiasm, through to the schools, colleges and other settings that share our aims, and the organisations that provide funding to further what is, after all, a simple ambition: for every young person to be able to get home safely.” [DSMF Chair, Dr Suja Chacko]

“Every year, when we take a pause from the busyness to review the year for our annual report, and look back at what we’ve achieved, we are so thankful to have been able to reach so many more young people, families, and professionals. Our vision at the DSM Foundation is to make sure every young person has the drug education they need to stay safe, and our commitment to this big ambition drives us forward every day, working hard in Dan’s name to make sure all young people are equipped with the information and skills they get them home in one piece.

Through taking every opportunity to reach even further by working with others we are able to do so much more – through our leadership of the ever-expanding national Drug Education Forum, through my role on the government’s Advisory Council for the Misuse of Drugs, through our work with Middlesex University to evaluate our drug education programme and bring learning for others working in the sector.

We are so proud of the dedication of Team Dan and the commitment of our trustees, and so thankful for the support of so many partners, supporters and funders, which enables us to keep going and growing. We will keep doing our best to make a difference in young lives that will last for another year and beyond.” [DSMF Director and Founder, Fiona Spargo-Mabbs OBE]
